New Look

As we are still in the development stage, we are continually addressing minor elements of our company. In order to be identifiable as a design service we have decided to include 'creative' in our title. It was something that has existed with the brand from the off-set but we had dropped for the main company name. 


We will now trade as 'Creative Eighty[6]' as demonstrated on our new logo.

A New Home

We are very excited because we have been given a fantastic opportunity. We will soon be based in Central Chambers in the heart of Glasgow city centre!!

This will give us the chance we need to get ourselves up and running. Having a base will enable us to work closer together to realise the business. We have so much still on the 'to-do' list and being in regular contact will definitely get us focussed enough to get through them. The business plan is almost at a point that we are happy to present to organisations in order to gain some much needed support and we are both very happy with how it's shaping up.

I'm away out now to buy some stationary :)

Buy Handmade

Hey! We havn't posted in a few weeks because we have been developing our business plans and ideas. Its exciting to think of the different avenues open to us at the moment.

On the other hand, there have been development in the VintageZebras range with a few new products on the table now. The online shop has been upgraded and updated and can be viewed here as well as a constant feed of updates from our Facebook page.

I have been popping into a few vintage/craft fairs recently and its great to see people using their talents and sharing them with the public. There are so many great handmade products out there and I have become really interested in the Buy Handmade campaign. 

The campaign has been created in order to encourage people to shop from independent shops and markets/fairs that stock products made with care and attention and usually by the person behind the counter. It is very important that in these times where money is tight and the economic news really is doom and gloom, that we support and encourage the growth of this talented community. These are the products that give life and personality back into gift giving (whether its a gift for yourself or someone else) and we can all stand to promote this colourful community and give our hard-earned cash to those who will appreciate it rather than the mass-poduced, faceless companies that dominate the high street.

Contact your local council or keep an eye out for any flyers/posters in your local area to find out about any fairs or markets coming up soon. I know where I'll be doing my Christmas shopping this year!

Director Profile: Lauren McGoldrick

Hi Lauren here.

I am from Glasgow also, I've pretty much lived here my whole life apart from a few summers working abroad in Majorca & Cyprus.

Well where to start? Well since leaving Knightswood Secondary in 2004, I went on to The College of Building & Printing and Anniesland College where I studied Graphic Design and undertook an Art & Design (portfolio) course. Here I developed my skills in analytical drawing, painting, life drawing, mixed media, design & print making to name but a few. It was at Anniesland that I was really encouraged to apply for Interior Design at Art School (Somewhere I had always dreamt of going).

After four great years at The Glasgow School of Art, I graduated in 2010 with a BA(HONS) Interior Design.

Since graduating last year I have worked on a few freelance projects. The main one was converting & extending an old cottage in Edinburgh's Morningside into a modern contemporary bachelor pad, I have also designed a logo for a new company which will be launched in the next few months.

Siobhan & I had often discussed our ideas and aspirations for the future whilst working away in our wee studio of the infamous Mac building. It became apparent that we shared the same views, energy and enthusiasm. Therefore we decided that one day we would love to work with each other.

So after deciding there was no time like the present, we got our creative heads together and Eighty[6] was born. I am extremely excited for our new venture and believe we have the determination, enthusiasm and drive to turn our dreams into reality.

Other than being a designer, I love a good night of dancing. I'm a bit of a sun worshipper. I love to travel. Take photographs. Live music. Green tea. Shoes that I cant walk in. Jewelry, especially bracelets & bangles (if only I had more arms). Big earrings. Laughter and basically enjoying life.

Director Profile: Siobhán McDonagh

Hi! I'm Siobhán.

I was born in Camden, North London but moved to Glasgow when I was 14 and have lived here ever since.

Once I left my school days at Holyrood Secondary behind, I studied interior design at the Metropolitan College for three years. I then furthered my education at Glasgow School of Art for an additional three years, graduating in 2010 with a 2:1 in Interior Design.

I was fortunate to gain experience after this as a freelance designer working on 2D & 3D branding and interior projects ranging from cigarette promotional products in Argentina to retail projects in Dubai. It was here that I began to understand fully the necessities of having a strong company identity and how a companies base is an important extension of their brand.

Lauren and I had spoken about working together throughout our time at GSA and since graduating it has become clear that in order to get as much experience in the field (good, and bad), it was something that we needed to do for ourselves - basically, we were getting tired of 'economic downturn' replies!

So Eighty[6] was born out of a desire to create and design a success on our own. As well as providing this opportunity for ourselves, we thought it was both practical and important to help other struggling designers like us by offering our space for others to showcase their work. 

We are both very excited about this venture and know we have the passion for our cause to succeed.

My bit on the side:

Throughout my time at uni I had developed a catalogue of pen and ink designs that helped me raise funds when I needed them. VintageZebras developed from a christmas gift I gave to someone because I was too skint to buy a present for her (vain, I know, but I was desperate!). In the following years, the collection has grown and is now forming the basis of our shop.

So aside from interior design and fine liner pens I like to croon to Elvis and Bette Midler (theres no shame in singing in front of the mirror), I have a penchant for pretty necklaces, a good cuppa (moo and two) and I'm known for my love of a good granny cardigan. I knit, I bake, I doodle, I dance, I don't run, I people watch, I appreciate a good full-stop and I have an unhealthy obsession with zebras.

Welcome to the first post from Eighty[6]

We are a creative studio in Glasgow specialising in interior design and brand development. We also host a store providing new artists and designers with a platform in which they can showcase their work.

Over the next few weeks you will find out more about exactly who we are and what we do, including personal profiles of our two directors, Lauren McGoldrick and Siobhan McDonagh.

We are excited about our new venture and hope to take you along on the journey with us.
